The new Commander of the Nigerian Navy’s Command Naval Drafting unit, Commodore Chindo Usman Yahaya urged officers and ratings of the unit to maintain professionalism in the discharge of their duties, especially as he pledged to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor to further elevate the Command.

Commodore Yahaya spoke while taking over command of the unit during  a handing and taking over ceremony held at the CND Conference Room on Friday.

The event marked the end of the tenure of Rear Admiral Mohammed Yakubu Dahiru, who in his valedictory remarks expressed deep appreciation to officers and ratings for their support throughout his leadership.

He highlighted the major milestones achieved during his tour of duty, noting the challenges overcome through teamwork and dedication. Rear Admiral Dahiru also called on personnel to extend the same level of commitment and cooperation to his successor.

As part of the ceremony, a one-minute silence was observed in honour of the late Commander M.O. Ibidoja, who served as Acting Executive Officer prior to his passing.

In his maiden address, Commodore Yahaya commended the outgone Commander for his contributions to the growth and operational success of the CND.

The ceremony featured the formal signing of handing and taking over notes and the symbolic transfer of authority through the CND flag.

Among the notable attendees were Mrs. Dahiru; Commander NNS Lugard; Commodore A.O. Ojo; Commander 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, represented by Brigadier General Sidi; Kogi State Government’s Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (rtd); the Chief of Banda, His Royal Highness Mohammed Jibrin; and Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, Mr. Abdullahi, among others.
